Built in the open: Next 16, no dark mode, monochrome, and a rock that is a point cloud rendered in about 6 KB of hand-written WebGL instead of 150 KB of three.js.
Everything on this page is static HTML with behaviour layered on top. That is not a performance flourish — it is the only way the content is visible to a reader with JavaScript off, to a screen reader, and to the crawlers that answer questions about people without executing scripts.
The measured numbers, the decisions, and what I would change live on the colophon — including the JavaScript budget I set for this site and then missed.
