# Gemm Blocks

Visual block programming for controlling Unitree robots without writing code. It is what we worked on until we landed on the final Gemm idea and the G1 arrived. Shown at a hackathon, which turned into an invitation to teach a class about it at ITBA.

Driving a quadruped or a humanoid means writing ROS2. That is a reasonable
barrier for a research team and an unreasonable one for anyone else who has a
use for a robot.

Gemm Blocks is a block editor that compiles to the same commands the stack
already accepts — pick up the sequence visually, run it on the robot.

We showed it at a hackathon at school, in a slot meant for something else
entirely. It turned into an invitation to teach a class on it at **ITBA**.

This is what the team worked on while we still had the Go2 and no real use
case. It stopped being the centre of Gemm when we landed on the final idea —
the refinery round — and the G1 arrived, because at that point there was
something specific to build and the robot to build it on. Which is the useful
order: the tool was good, and it was not the answer to the question we ended up
asking.
